The heat of summer has been so paralyzing nowadays. Migraine attacks, heat rash and of course, the sweat. That’s why I have been dreading summer — except for the road trips and the time I can spend with my children, it’s not really my favorite time of the year. I wish I electricity is not that high so we can have our house fully air-conditioned.

When the temperature is really high, I keep dreaming that I am in a cold, cozy place sipping a hot choco while sitting in a barnwood furniture. Ooooh, ain’t that cool?

As I write this blog post, I can hear thunder and rains are pouring outside. I wish it will rain the whole day so the temperature will go down. Rains are a welcome respite nowadays. So I am really thankful just as long as it will not cause floods.

I wish I can just tell my body to get used to the summer temperature and be more productive as ever.

As I have blogged before, music has been a great part of my life. At an early age, I have been exposed to singing, not professionally though, but by being a member of our parish children’s choir. Then as I was growing up, the choir has been my second family until I left to build my own career and family here in the Metro.

I find relaxation in singing. I remember we have our own karaoke set and I used to lock myself in the room and sing my heart out to the songs of my favorite singers like Whitney Houston and local singer Regine Velasquez.

Music provides me with a wonderful means of self expression. I would belt out imagining that I have my own MXL microphone and believe that I am on a stage performing with a live audience. Ain’t that sweet?

Music rests both my mind and body. It’s a way of relaxation for me. I sure wish I had the chance to improve my talent. But I guess I shouldn’t have any regrets. That’s why I keep telling my children that they should go for their dreams and pursue the things that will make them happy and that they should not depend on others or anything for happiness. Life is indeed your own choices.

Lately, I have been doing a lot of thinking regarding the things I need to do to help in the family’s finances. With the decision to close my small business and the new business still has not picked up, I just feel I have so much things to do in order to make myself productive.

Yes, this is the time where I feel I am not contributing anything, aside from being a full-time mom. No, it’s not self-pity… it’s picking up the pieces. I will not hold on to the past and waste energy. I will start over to free my self up for something better.

There is a world of possibilities out there and it is up to me find it and create something for the future and for my self-fulfillment. It’s all a matter of pushing yourself.

It’s as simple as fixing a furniture like a piano with a broken hinge and change it to stainless steel piano hinge to make it more sturdy. Your future lies within your hands and you do not have anyone to blame if you fail.

So, I guess I need to start picking up the pieces.

I used to have online meetings when I was employed with a multi-national company and I meet with people around the Asian region and even the US with the use of web conferencing services. Technology indeed shortens distances. I just love it that you can communicate with your loved ones without too much cost. When we were in US, I can talk to the kids everyday without spending a single centavo. I just need to hook up with the wi-fi connection available.

Now that my hubby is on his own practice, he can have online meetings with his clients anytime, anywhere. He even does his presentation remotely without leaving his office or our house. Cheaper than flying all the way to meet them. How great is that?

Good thing I am quite adept with technology to help him set up these meetings.

Summer is here once again. In a few weeks, the kids will be out of school and they are now thinking of what to keep them busy this summer break. Despite the fact that we, as parents would want to take a break from spending, it’s inevitable that they enroll in summer classes to keep them away from spending the whole day in front of the TV or their console games.

My daughter still insists on continuing with her cheer leading camp despite her injury. We still have to decide whether to allow her or not. My boy, on the other hand, aside from his basketball clinic, would want to try out piano or guitar lessons. I’d rather he decides on taking up piano lessons since we already have a piano at home. If he decides to take guitar lessons, it’ll be a lot more expensive since we need to purchase him a guitar or even choose from different Fender Guitars in the market.

Oh well, whatever they decide, it will all be up to them. As for me, I sure hope we have enough funds to send them to these summer classes, for sanity’s sake. LOL! It’s harder for me to let them stay home and hear them say… “I’m bored!”, every now and then

Watching the news these days is really disappointing. While the Christmas girl is me is still checking if everyone on my checklist has a gift, others are so busy fighting and exchanging harsh words.

The other week, after being slapped with an electoral sabotage case, Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo while awaiting trial, following a Pasay City court’s approval yesterday of her petition for hospital arrest, refuses to ride an air ambulance service provided by the government but instead prefers to be transported via a bulletproof bus. This incident resulted in the exchange of harsh words between the two camps.

This week, members of the Congress fastracked the passing of the impeachment case against Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona, which reportedly was pushed by no less than the President himself.

I can only shake my head in disgust! It is no secret that my brother in law is a Senator, but we are not a political family. I just can’t get it. Probably, the reason for my disgust is because of the timing. This is Christmas, people should be thinking of the reason why we are celebrating…

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. -John 3:16

Yes, not too long ago, my husband’s family especially my BIL, was a victim of political harassment. But I could not wish it to happen to any family.

I just hope that we can all move forward and know by heart the reason for this season.

My schedule is so crazy nowadays that I do not even have time to take a pause and indulge in some relaxing massage or a facial. I remember the last time I was this busy was when I was working and started selling baked goodies on the side. I go to work feeling like a zombie, because I need to finish my baking at 2am. Now, I feel like I look like a zombie, My hair color is starting to fade, my face is starting to break and my nails…arrrgh! But no worries, I shall have my “ME” after the Holidays and de-stress myself. Good thing, I still find time to squeeze in my exercise regimen, which I feel is the most important of all.

Even with all the toxicity, of course, I still don’t forget to look Fab I try to put on make up even just a hint of blush, a lipstick and of course, my mascara. Good thing I am blessed with a good skin type and naturally long lashes, teeheehee. Once I was asked by an office mate if I was putting on fake lashes and even inquired about the best eyelash growth product I was using. “Oh, this is my natural lash. I just placed mascara,” I replied with a smile.

Working in front of people has taught me to dress and look good even when I am busy, it gives me no excuse to look hideous. Oh that’s not me at all. Others tell me that when you are a SAHM (stay at home mom) that gives you a good reason not to dress up. I say No! I probably wouldn’t be wearing my usual office attire but I certainly wouldn’t wear anything crappy. You always need to look good, whether you are working or not.

I came home one day from my yoga practice and saw my eldest crying and whining. My first instinct was of course, to ask what happened. Then she blurted out the events of the day that led her to cry. One thing good though, she didn’t cry in school.

My daughter even when she was a kid, was such a “cry baby” just like her mom but I have learned through time that crying does not solve anything. And so while she was growing up, we have taught her how to be strong and not be hypersensitive about things. Thanks to her dad, she has slowly outgrown the cry-baby stage … until now.

I tried not to show pity but I really feel for her. She’s the captain of her batch cheering squad and it’s a very big responsibility. When things don’t go her way, it can sometimes make her fall to the ground. My advise is simple. “If things don’t go your way, your tears will not help solve any of your problems. You can cry to release those emotions, but only for awhile. Let go and pick yourself up and try to be objective about things, it will let you focus more on the problem at hand.” It took while for her to stop sobbing but after all the pep talk, I know that she’ll be alright.

Sometimes the reason, why we cry and drown ourselves with sadness is because we keep looking back at the mistakes or the misfortunes that took place. LET IT GO! I am reminded of the quote I saw in Facebook…

When life’s strong winds come blowing, bend with them and let go. By bending, you become stronger in new places. By letting go, you will be making room for the new and the better.

Nowadays, you need to be more flexible. Get out of your comfort zones and try out new things. I used to see myself as an office type of person, where I have a fixed workstation. But lo and behold! I am now an entrepreneur. If I need to work, I do not need a workstation. I can work anywhere just like those hospital computer carts, my mobility does not affect my efficiency.

It took me awhile to find my niche and now I tell myself, “I should have done this a long time ago.” Oh well, it’s never too late …

It’s raining again! and I can’t help but feel gloomy. Yes, it has that effect on me. I try to fight it off by keeping myself busy and active. Just like today, it was raining the whole day and despite my hectic morning sked, the gloominess caught up with me in the afternoon, I gave in with a nap. I thought I will be energized afterwards, but it failed! So I ended up the day with a Yoga practice. That’s when I felt the energy, perfect for wrapping up the day. Now, I still have a lot of energy and after doing some reports and still have time to blog

Although I love the cold weather, I guess the rains just affect me. I love the cold weather cause it’s to be a fashionista when it’s cold. You can layer your clothes and not worry about having to sweat I remember when we visited Europe, I had a grand time wearing different stylish clothing, winter jackets and even the north face jackets, which I never even bothered to look in the malls.

This is just me thinking out loud…. After all, I did not let the rainy weather affect me that much. I guess what I am saying is … You can do something about every negative feeling you are experiencing.

It’s been a hectic 2 weeks for me and I guess it took its toll on my health. I was bed-ridden the last weekend and it was the first time I have felt the kind of pain in which my muscles ached so badly, I literally cannot move.

Hubby said I was stressed! Yeah, but it was a different kind of stress. I am comparing the stress I had when I was in the corporate world. This “stress” gave me fulfillment .. which make me feel the need to still get up and do more. I believe it is when you love what you are doing that you overcome stress. Not to say that I did not find satisfaction when I was working as an employee, I did! In fact, I loved how I was able to deal with different people but at some point, when you can no longer enjoy the time and you’re all tied up at work… it will get you thinking. Is it all worth it?

Now, I added a little zest into my life, taking some risks and after all the setbacks, I am back on my feet. Life would be so boring if you don’t take chances once in awhile. Your body will always look for that adrenaline rush, and so just like some people who add flavor on their swisher cigars, I had to venture into something new.

My physical body has always been weak, but when your spirits are high nothing can put you down. I enjoy what I am doing now, I have my own time which enables me to spend more time with my kids.

And so, I move on! Even when I still have a funny voice (due to colds) and coughs every once in a while, I still got up Monday and did the work that had to be done. I couldn’t say that stress is no longer there…. but I can easily overcome it. It’s all about managing it!
