Insuring your gadgets

Written on September 24th, 2010 by sassymomno shouts

iPad_ Kids right now are so much into techie gadgets. Although I am a firm believer of establishing “tech free” time with my children, I also acknowledge the importance of using technology to enhance learning. I personally would want my kids to be highly skilled in using techie gadgets, I don’t really want them to be left behind since I know that this knowledge can be a great advantage to them in the future.

Of course one cannot deny the fact that these techie gadgets can be a bit pricey that’s why it really pays to have some kind of insurance especially in cases of theft or “acts of God”. Although most of these gadgets come with a warranty but in most cases these warranty provides coverage only for manufacturer’s defects while an insurance policy has a more comprehensive coverage.

Take the case of an iphone warranty, it covers your iPhone one year from the date of original purchase and the coverage will be limited to defects caused by manufacturer but nothing more. As a consumer, it gives you peace of mind to know that your property is covered for any situation especially if you really heavily on this piece of gadget. For a blogger like me, I’ll probably opt to insure my laptop since my life is basically online.

There are many types of coverage you can choose from in insuring your electronic devices, it pays to know your options.

My daughter: The Sporty Type

Written on June 17th, 2010 by sassymomno shouts

nikeBetween my son and my daughter, mu daughter has always been the sporty type. Since I am not into sports, I guess she takes after her dad.

Even her wardrobe, you can see the sporty gears and not the “girlie” stuff. She just loves rubber shoes, she’s completely my exact opposite. I can with only a pair of rubber shoes or even none.

Now that she’s about to celebrate her birthday, one of her birthday wishes was to have her Nike training shoes. Fortunately there was a Nike and Adidas Clearance Sale and I bought a pair training shoes for her. It’s 50% off, isn’t it fab? She loved it so much.

As for me, I am glad to have scored a good bargain once again. Being a practical mom, I see to it that even if I give in to retail therapy, I am always a smart shopper.

Happy Birthday, my dear daughter!

Encouraging kids to engage in Sports

Written on May 29th, 2010 by sassymomno shouts

I must admit I was never a sports person mainly because I was not exposed to it. Now that I am an adult, the only sport I know is bowling.

With my kids, we try to encourage them to engage in sports. I have seen the benefits of sports especially among children. Participating in sports does not only enhance their physical abilities but it’s an avenue for them to develop their social skills and mental abilities.

HEALTH AND PHYSICAL BENEFITS. Having a sports activity is an excellent way to become physically fit. Playing sports develops and strengthens muscles and teaches them to become more aware of their body. Having a positive body image makes children more conscious about what they eat thus promoting a healthier lifestyle.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS. Sports teach children how to interact with other people which will be an advantage to them when they grow up especially in the workforce. It hones their ability to work with people and act as a team. Moreover, it gives them a sense of accomplishment which boosts their self confidence.  Sports can indeed play a vital role in developing a child’s social well-being.

Awaiting the resultsMENTAL DEVELOPMENT. As a parent, I have seen how sports have developed my children mental maturity exposing them to what the “real world” is — that you cannot predict its outcome however you need to accept it. During competitions, everyone cannot be a winner and I have seen them accept failures however hard it may be.  It is not always about winning, the most important is that you have taken part in the activity and have given it your best shot.  Success is not measured by the medals and awards you have received but in the ability to gain experience and absorb all learnings you have acquired through these failures. Failures thus opens the door for success, it’s a matter of how you deal with it. Playing sports is an avenue for children to be emotionally and mentally mature; it teaches them to deal with the strains of life.

Boys and their toys

It’s very common among little boys to develop a fascination with cars. My son is a perfect example, he loves to play with those die-cast Matchbox® toy vehicles, remote control cars, and collect special edition Ferrari to cars. He’s very fond of watching Formula One with his dad and idolizes Michael Schumacher.

As a woman and a mom, I may not truly understand what kind of excitement they achieve when they play those toys and watch those high speed racing events, all I know is that these things truly make them happy. Who knows, in the future, my little boy will not be only looking at toys but real racing cars, buying Ferrari parts and other stuff about vehicle that he is passionate about. And as a parent, all I can do is to support and guide him…. that’s what Moms do.

Excitement awaits you at Active Fun

Active Fun StoreFront

It was a rainy Friday afternoon but the heavy downpour did not dampen the enthusiasm of our kids as they engage themselves in active play at ActiveFun. Mommy Bloggers and our kids were invited to experience their newly opened branch at the Annex of SM City North EDSA. This activity center features the longest indoor slides in the country plus the other facilities where the kids can exercise and develop their motor and coordination skills. Nowadays I feel that this is important since most kids do not get the opportunity to play actively because of the hi-tech gadgets available. They would rather be in front of the television, play online and other console games.
